Known as the “Godfather of Digital Forensics & Incident Response (DFIR),” Rob T. Lee is one of the most renowned cybersecurity experts and thought leaders working today, with over 20 years of experience in computer forensics, incident response, threat hunting, vulnerability and exploit discovery, and intrusion detection/prevention. Rob has mentored many of the cybersecurity experts working today.

Rob currently serves as the Chief Curriculum Director and Faculty Lead at SANS Institute, the world’s leading cybersecurity and digital forensics training company. He is also regularly hired as a consultant and technical advisor by U.S. Congress, federal agencies, and the U.S. military to investigate and review data security breaches. Within the private sector, Rob also helps corporations as a hands-on cybersecurity practitioner to look into security breaches, trade secret thefts, and other cybersecurity issues.

Rob is also the lead engineer and creator of the SIFT Workstation.

Prior to his role at SANS, Rob served as the Director of Incident Response at information security firm MANDIANT for four years before which he was the Director for Offensive Cyber Operations and Development at Mantech, a defense contracting firm based in Herndon, Virginia.

The son and grandson of career military officers, Rob has always been committed to serving his country. After graduating from the U.S. Air Force Academy, he served as a founding member of the 609th Information Warfare Squadron, the first U.S. military operational unit focused on information operations, which tackled famous investigations such as Moonlight Maze. Later, he joined the Air Force Office of Special Investigations (AFOSI) where he led a team conducting computer crime investigations, incident response, and computer forensics.

Rob is the co-author of Know Your Enemy, 2nd Edition and multiple industry reports, and is the recipient of several cybersecurity awards. Over the years, he has mentored thousands of cybersecurity professionals that have gone on to serve in critical roles all around the world.

When he’s not thwarting virtual threats, you’ll find Rob spending time with his family, focusing on continual learning and finding new ways to celebrate his love for Star Wars.
